SP Rajkumar, known for his comedies, has succeeded in using the mass appeal and skills of Ilaiya Thalapathi. Vijay, whose political ambitions are no secret, plays a do-gooder fisherman who delivers some powerful one-liners about the current politics in the country. He sings and dances like a dream; some of the difficult dance movements he executes invite ecstatic cries from his fans. He tries his hand at comedy in this movie and comes out unscathed.
